I conducted a survey with Google Forms to gather more information about my target audiences. The goal of this survey form is to understand different perspectives of my target audiences in order to predict the behaviors and knowledge of them regarding to my chosen topic, which is about the mental health of content moderators. I have gathered 28 respondents and in this post I will discuss on the outcome and summarise it.

From here, I can see that majority of my respondents are under 25 year old with a mixture of both genders. Half of them never heard of content moderators and about 70% of them never seen any post or videos regarding to content moderators whereas the remaining 9 respondents seen news about them in social media platforms. In conclusion, the majority of people do not know the existence of these people.

Blue: 5 respondents
Red: 21 Respondents
Yellow: 2 Respondents
The position "content moderators" are defined accurately among the majority but there are a few that has mistaken the job scope of these people.

In addition, I also asked the respondents to tick what they think content moderators work required them do and the most prominent content these people have to go through which are watching murder, abuse, child pornography and committing suicide results are lesser than the other suggested contents. This study shows that people are unaware that content moderators actually have to watch this on a daily.

From the following question, most respondents have no idea that content moderators are working in horrible working conditions. The remaining on the other side knows of this occurrence through documentaries, articles and interviews and have memories of them being mentally abused through their field of work.

When asked what respondent think content moderators feel when carrying out their work, majority couldn't empathise or don't know. The rest understand that it must be mentally straining, disturbing and it might affect their daily lives.

Majority of the respondents will not commit to this job even if given a high pay, the remaining 43% are either willing or considering the thought of doing the job.

In the last question I asked the respondents if they think mental health should be taken lightly and to my surprise, many are very aware of the fact that mental health is not something to be cast aside. Many described the consequences of mental health and how it affects the well being of a person. One of the respondents even empathise strongly with the content moderators and believed that the advancement of technology will only increase the number of content moderators which will cause the situation to worsen.
Through this survey outcome, I have a better undertsanding of my target audience and I have a better grasp of the idea and message that I want to deliver/execute. I will use this finding to analyse my user needs and goals.
